So I’m a little *involved* in the K9 unit that my husband is a part of.A I’m sort of SSO K9 Paparazzi. I photograph the collectors cards of course, and now with our calendar fundraiser we have done pictures of the teams and the entire unit. I’ve set up mobile studios and I’ve shot them in action. I’ve been slobbered on by all of them.
But not everyone is as lucky as I am! In fact, some of the family members of our handlers really hadn’t seen the dogs in action before. So last week, they had a barbecue / demo to set up some training scenarios and show the families what these dogs can do! Everyone got to see drug odor detection work and agility work before relaxing with hotdogs, hamburgers, and an absolute ton of desserts.
Two new dogs have been added to the team recently, and we needed action shots for their collectors cards. Here’s Bryx:
Some other favorites from the evening….
As the very last traces of light left the sky tonight, I was standing on top of a car, shooting down on some K9 bite work.
From tracking down criminals to saving lives, these Charlotte County K9s are officially retired.
K9 Justice, Vader and Atlas will retire to their handlersa homes for a well-deserved rest. Despite their ages, the four-legged workers still display eagerness to jump into a K9 patrol and head off to work.
I was lucky enough to photograph Vader and Atlas for their collectors cards…..wishing them a wonderful retirement! Thank you for your service!
When a police K9 retires, most times the handler takes him home and gives him a great retirement as a much-loved family pet.
While all expenses for K9s are covered while they are working dogs, once they retire the handler also agrees to take over all expenses for food and medical care.
Given that these dogs work HARD for many years and are usually seniors when they retire, the handlers are often taking on quite an expense to give their K9s the retirement they deserve. In Sarasota County, FL, a fund has been created to help offset these costs and ensure a comfortable retirement for our K9 officers and their devoted handlers.
Anyone can donate to this fund, and their donation goes directly to these amazing dogs! Details in the comments on the video below.
