Unconditional bio picture
  • WELCOME!

    I'm glad you're here! I'm Heather.

< - That's me over there, getting slobbered on by my boxer, Jessie. It's ok, I don't mind the slobber.

I've been a professional photographer since 2002, and have always included the family pets when photographing families and kids. I've expanded on my love of all things furry by creating the Dedicated program for Police K9s / working dogs, and the Unconditional program for family pets.

I have a deep respect for what animals add to our lives. They bring love, messes, joy, and chaos, each in their own unique way. Please take a look around and feel free to drop me a note as well. I'd love to hear from you :)

Surprise! We’ve got….kittens!

A few months ago, a beautiful but thin and raggedy-looking cat started hanging around our house. It took a while, but we won her trust and got her inside. We tried everything we could think of to find her owner with no luck, and we decided we’d keep her. We planned to take her to the vet, and then …. I broke my arm. Badly. Required surgery and pins and plates and lots of rest and no mobility and physical therapy.

And in the thick of the craziness in our household surrounding my injury, this gorgeous cat (who we had named Asia) got out of our house:(. We searched everywhere but couldn’t find her. Weeks went by and she didn’t return. I feared the worst…she was a tiny cat, and our woods are filled with bigger animals that could easily kill her.

Until suddenly, there she was! Thin and matted, she dragged herself back and gratefully came  inside. We hoped she’d learned her lesson! We made plans to take her to the vet when I got back from my scheduled trip to Chicago.

On the final day of my trip, I received an excited call from my son, who said “Asia just had a kitten!” He proceeded to tell me all about it, and that it had happened a half an hour ago, and there was just one.

For now, I thought. For now. I doubt she has just one in there…..

Sure enough, by the time my flight landed there were three tiny kittens tucked under a towel, curled up close to their new mama.

Beyond getting these little cuties grown up to the weaning point and getting EVERYONE to the vet to be spayed/neutered, I’m not sure what we’re going to do yet…. but just *look* !!:)  This is Asia and her babies: Bonsai, Chai, and Dali. They are just one day old in these pictures. Asia doesn’t seem to have a problem with us being near them, but we don’t want to disturb her much.

Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit – Port Charlotte, FL

I got to meet all seven of the Charlotte County K9 team last week.  What a great group of dogs! Meet Ayko, Atlas, Azor, Argo, Boba, Vader, and Jager.  I met Ayko and Azor a few years ago because they were in training with our K9 Hiro! It was great to see them again.

I’m always crazy about the K9s I meet, but I have to admit that Boba was in peril of being kidnapped by me:D. I really wanted to take him home.

dog beach

We love going to the local dog beach! Jester really enjoyed her first time here. She was a little overwhelmed by the waves and the sand at first, but followed Finnegan’s lead and was soon having tons of fun!

bringing home Jester :)

A few months ago, the itch started.

The itch for another dog. Sometimes you just know that you have room in your home and your heart for another one.

It’s been a few years since we lost our sweet boxer, Riley, and we’ve been thinking quite a bit about how much we miss her sweet face! And there’s just something about that boxer energy….they really are quite different, personality-wise, from any other breeds I’ve encountered.

And so, this little girl has found her way into our lives:). Her name is Jester, but you can call her Jessie:).  She’s five months old and just as sweet as can be! Here are some pictures from the day we brought her home. My awesome friend Gillian, who does a lot of great work with rescue agencies in the Miami area, found her for us and just knew she was the one! <3
